They are very hard to see, because they are black and so is space. They are black because their gravity is so strong that not even light can escape them.
Black Holes can form from a supernova explosion. The collapse of a star's surface inward causes the explosion. And it also makes a black hole. But only if the star was big enough. It takes a pretty big star to make a Black Hole.

Some astronomers believe that they have seen Black Holes indirectly. They think that they can see Black Holes gobbling up stars that got too close to them. They also think that most galaxies may have a giant Black Holes in their centers.
What would it be like to enter a black hole? Not fun. First, as you approach the black hole the difference in gravity's pull on your head compared to your feet would rip you apart. But suppose you survived that. Once you entered the Black Hole you cannot return, remember not even light gets away from a Black Hole. In the end the Black Hole would crush you out of existence. So I wouldn't try it if I were you.

Planets around other Stars

Did you know that about 200 planets have been found around distant stars? The first planet around a star like our Sun was found in 1995. Since then, a new planet has been found almost every month!
The star and its planet move around each other. The planet moves in a wide orbit. The star just wobbles slightly. This causes a Doppler shift of the light. Most of the distant planets were discovered this way.

Some of the planets pass in front of their star. This blocks out some of the light. It makes the star look dimmer. It's like a solar eclipse. The planet only covers a small part of the star. Only a few of the planets pass in front of their stars.
All of the new planets are too far away to see directly. We can only see their effect on the star that they orbit.

Silly Points

1. Rule 1. - The Boss is always right.
2. Rule 2. - If the Boss is wrong, see rule 1.
3. Those who work get more work. Others get pay, perks, and promotions.
4. Ph.D. stands for "Pull Him Down". The more intelligent a person, the more hardworking a person, the more committed a person; the more number of persons are engaged in pulling that person down.
5. If you are good, you will get all the work. If you are really good, you will get out of it.
6. When the Bosses talk about improving productivity, they are never talking about themselves.
7. It doesn't matter what you do, it only matters what you say you've done and what you are going to do.
8. A pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the butt.
9. They also appear to yawn in a very human manner before taking up the tasks of the day.

Bees have 5 eyes. There are 3 small eyes on the top of a bee's head and 2 larger ones in front.

The outdoor temperature can be estimated to within several degrees by timing the chirps of a cricket. Every part of it, especially the leaves, is of immense benefit to human beings. During the life time of one tree -- it can live upto 300 years -- the benefits it gives are valued at around 30,000 dollars or Rs.13 lakhs. This was revealed at an international seminar held in Delhi in February, 2007. Apart from their medicinal properties, the leaves of one tree is stated to act like ten air-conditioners, because they reduce the heat of the environs by ten degrees. The parts of the tree, besides being used in medicines, are also used in cosmetics and making household items. The leaves are good disinfectants, too. The seminar sounded a warning to India. Countries like Australia and Vietnam have started planting neem, and if we do not protect the living trees and at the same time plant more, the world would come to depend more on other countries to become beneficiaries of neem.

Children in the news

1. A Book in seven days

Eight year old Raja Mansingh, studying in class 2 at Madras christian college H.S. School, took only seven days to write a whole book. His Kid's Recipe for Pizza, Paisa, Peace was formally released at a gala function early in april, 2007. Probably, Raja is India's youngest author-in-English, to be precise-but his thoughts are those of an aged philosopher! Here is an example: 'There is no such being called God. It was created to make us afraid, so that if we are indisciplined, it can be said that our actions are always being watched." He is very much interested in arts and crafts. In his leisure time, he makes aluminum foil flowers and does glass painting. He sells them and has, saved more than Rs.20000. HIs parents hope that Raja would pursue his literary efforts.

2. Gita by heart

Rishiprada is only five years old, but she can recite all 700 verses of the Bhagawad Gita by heart. Her grandfather, Dr.Awadhesh Prasad Caoudhary of RAima, a village in Madhubani, Bihar, noticed that she was fond of learning and reciting Sanskrit verses, and taught her the entire Gita, and amazingly she learnt it by heart. She can recite all the verses with full clarity of the language. Father Shatrumardan and mother Savitha Devi recall that Rishiprada had shown her talents from a very early age. Many sanskrit pundits and scholars were astonished when they listened to her recitation of Gita.

3. Jaikiran Kanwar(8), a student of Sanskriti school in New Delhi, took part in the world Taekwando contest in Seoul, Korea, where he earned the Black Belt - the highest recognition. One of the judges remarked: "This young man shows the drive and focus that I have seen only in big winners". Jaikiran was declared the youngest Black belt in Asia. He has just been promoted to Class 3.
